This was the first time that the USA won the Freestyle Worlds and the first appearance of the Brands Brothers on the team. Both Tom and Terry won their first Gold Medals here. Bruce Baumgartner added another Gold to his collection and Melvin Douglas was to become World Champion when his Iranian opponent failed his drug test.
